Here’s How You Will Find Yourself Once Again

God & Man

Somewhere in the midst of chaos and turmoil, life happened. And you might have lost sight of the person you are, and the person you want to be. Somehow, someway you let the world decide who you are. You forgot what makes you so special.

You forgot how incredibly unique you are. You forgot that you matter. That you are significant.

You sacrificed bits and pieces of who you are for the acceptance of others. You allowed others to tell how you should feel. You let their opinions of you, override your opinion of you. And in return, you entirely lost sight of the incredible things that make you, you. You spent so much time of your time living your life for others instead of living it for yourself. You’ve hopelessly searched for love in all the wrong places. In all the wrong people. You’ve begged desperately for acceptance from others. You tried to fill a void. But nothing you do, nothing you get, and no one you meet ever can seem to fill it. And although you might think you are happy, at the end of the day- you still feel empty. You still feel lost. And you still can’t figure out why that is.

You might lay awake in bed at night and question every single thing about who you are. And how the HELL you even got here….

But the truth is, there really is no big secret in the journey of ‘finding yourself’, and it doesn’t happen all at once.

Honestly, I think that we are constantly discovering new and exciting things about ourselves every single day. And although there likely won’t be a day where you feel 100% “found”, but when you know who you are, it’s hard to ignore. Finding yourself means forgiving every mistake. It means letting go of everything that broke you. It means looking in the mirror without noticing the flaws that make you exquisite. It means that you’re no longer stuck at war with yourself. Finding yourself means you’ll feel everything deeply and intensely. And that’s because your emotions run wild at a unsteady pace you aren’t used to yet. Everything feels as if it’s about to fall apart and all you can do now is sit back and watch it crash and burn. But, this is exactly when you will figure out who you are. You may come out as a completely different person, but this is the person that you have fought long and hard to become.

Finding yourself isn’t an objective. You’re never going to feel fully satisfied, like you’ve reached your “final self.” Because truthfully, we’re never really done evolving. You’ll let bits and pieces of your self go along the way and you will probably always feel a tad bit lost.

And that’s okay.

You will see that you, alone, possess so many incredible things to offer to this world. And you alone have beauty that is dissimilar to anything else in this world.

So as you continue on your journey, remember that piece by piece, you will forever continue to find parts of yourself along the way. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
