You’re Allowed To Move On

Matheus Ferrero

You’re allowed to move on.

That’s right, you heard me.

You’re allowed to move on.

Remind yourself of that, every day.

Remind yourself that it’s okay to leave someone behind who is no longer complimenting your life.

Moving on goes for both platonic and romantic relationships.

You’re allowed to let go of all those one-sided friendships you’ve been holding onto so deeply simply because you’ve been friends for so long. If they are no longer being the kind of friend you need, allow yourself to let them go. You don’t deserve them.

You’re allowed to move on from the boyfriend or girlfriend that doesn’t treat you in the way you deserve. The lover that tries to invalidate your feelings. The lover that makes you upset, but will never take responsibility for being the cause of your emotions. Your feelings are valid. You are worth more than that.

You’re allowed to walk away from people who don’t fit your life anymore. Maybe it’s because you’ve changed, and are more into staying home on Friday nights instead of going to the bars so you walk away from your party friends. Maybe it’s your significant other who has changed and they are no longer the person you fell in love with. Maybe it’s distance. Maybe it’s growing up. Maybe it’s just time.

No matter what the situation or what your reason is, you’re allowed to walk away. You’re allowed to move on.

Forgive yourself for that.

Forgive yourself for not keeping those people around. They ran their course in your life, but that’s over now and that’s okay.

Forgive yourself for the times you never gave a reason. Forgive yourself for the times you didn’t know the reason.

Forgive yourself for the moments you regret. The moments where you wish you stayed, or the moments you miss them. You moved on for a reason, remember that.

You are free to grow apart from people. You are free to lose feelings for people.

You don’t owe anyone anything, especially not a place in your life.

This is your life. You’re the one in control.

Move on from whoever and whatever you want.

Move on from that job that drains you mentally.

Move on from that hair cut you’ve been saying you’ll change for years.

Move on from that program that you hate but your parents wanted.

Move on from all the half-assed lovers and no-good friendships.

It’s okay to move on.

You’re allowed to move on.

So, move on. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
