This Is Why She Is Going To Leave You

She is going to leave you, you know.

She is going to leave you. Not because of the things you did, but because of the things that you didn’t do. She is going to leave you. Not because of things you said, but because of the things you never said.

She’s leaving you because you told her you loved her, but you didn’t show it. You told her in a hushed whisper, in the middle of the night, drunk on too much liquor. But you never really meant it.

She’s leaving you because you didn’t show up for the important parts. When she asked you to help her, to nourish her, and to validate her feelings, you shrugged your shoulders. You talked a lot of talk. You said a lot of words. A lot of fragmented sentences that seemed to shine so brightly, but you never followed through.

She’s leaving you because you never truly cared.

Because if you cared, you wouldn’t have looked at her with disappointment. If you really cared, you wouldn’t of gotten angry over a silly little argument. If you really cared, you wouldn’t have skipped that date. If you really cared, you would’ve listened. Truly listened to what she wanted. To what she needed. To what she was telling you so clearly.

She’s leaving you because you weren’t the person she thought you were. She’s leaving you because you aren’t the person that she can be with anymore. She’s leaving you, because you don’t see a future with her. And she can’t be with someone who doesn’t see that. Who doesn’t see a picture in her head of old and wrinkly hands. Who doesn’t see that beautiful and tragic picture.

She’s leaving because you are doing nothing to stop her from doing just that.

She’s running away from a life that you could’ve had with her. And she’s sprinting away from you and you are just standing there gaping. You are just standing there, staring. Not running after her. Not calling out her name. Not making her come back.

She’s leaving because she knows that you don’t love her enough to make her stay. She’s leaving because she knows that you don’t love her enough to make her stop from turning the handle on your door.

She’s leaving because you don’t have the strength to do the right thing. You don’t have the love inside of your heart to beg her to reconsider. You don’t have the courage and bravery to try to reason with her. To try to convince her to stay. Just stay.

So she’s leaving. And she’s not going to look back. Because she deserves someone who is going to try. She deserves someone who is going to work. Who is going to fight. Who is going to say, ‘Stop. Don’t go. Don’t run. Don’t leave’.

She deserves someone who won’t ever make her run in the first place. Who will stop her from turning that handle. Who will stop her from running with the wind.
