Friends and family are our confidantes. They are there for us when we need someone to lean on or when we just want to have fun and celebrate. But did you notice one word that I didn’t write? It is “always.” They are not ALWAYS present when we need them because they have got their own lives, too, and we can’t blame them for being busy.

I just went through one of the toughest experiences in my life, a break up. As we all know, letting go of someone who you thought was the love of your life is never easy. It is one of those moments that you wish you would not experience, ever. But unfortunately, life has a way of teaching us a lesson and making us stronger. That is the good side of it. You learn from your mistakes, and you realize that God cares and loves you so much to be saving you for someone who is worthy of your love.

We are all human and sometimes we just want to talk to our friends for reassurance that we are not alone. But our friends have priorities too, and they can’t always respond to our messages to make us feel better.

As I was going through this season of my life, I realized that the only person I can always count on and is always there for me is myself. The only person who can always make me feel better and reassure that this is all going to pass is myself.

Because no matter how many times they tell you that it is going to be okay, if you yourself don’t believe it, it is not going to happen.

So, darling, in times like this, only you can help yourself. You don’t have to depend on other people for your happiness. You have to keep in mind that you’re all good all on your own. It’s time to finally give yourself some love instead of giving it to the people who don’t deserve it. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
