When You Love Someone, You Don’t Send Mixed Signals

When you care about someone, you don’t make them question their self-worth by ignoring their texts for two days and canceling plans at the last second and flirting with other people right in front of their face.

You don’t tell them how much you miss them and then turn them down whenever they ask you to hang out.

You don’t give them all of your attention and then take it away without a reason.

You don’t flirt with them and then call yourself friends.

When you care about someone, you don’t send them mixed signals. You don’t treat them like your soulmate one day and like your backup plan the next day. You don’t go back and forth about how well you treat them.

When you care about someone, you show them how much they mean to you every single day. When they text you, you find the time to answer them before they grow worried. When you promise them that you will stop by to visit, then you follow through. When you say you love them, you make sure that it’s the truth.

You don’t lie to them. You don’t deceive them. You don’t disappoint them.

You don’t promise that you will see them soon and then keep rescheduling again and again.

You don’t text them when you are drunk and ignore them when you are sober.

You don’t keep changing your mind about whether you want them in your life permanently or temporarily.

When you care about someone, you don’t make them feel insecure in their skin. You don’t make them wonder whether they are too ugly or boring or average for you. You don’t make them feel like they have to lose ten pounds or dress differently to earn your attention back.

You don’t make them feel like they are unlovable, like they have been doing something wrong, like they need to give you even more when there is barely anything left of them.

When you care about someone, you ease those insecurities. You remind them how thankful you are to have them in your life. You tell them how much you love the sound of their laugh and the color of their eyes. You give them unlimited affection without worrying about how attached you sound.

When you care about someone, when you love someone, you are vulnerable in front of them. You wear your heart on the edge of your sleeve. You let them know how you’re feeling. You tell them what is running through your mind. You are honest, even when it is hard.

When you care about someone, you tell them the truth about how you feel about them. You let them know where you see the relationship heading. You put a label on whatever the hell is going on between the two of you.

When you care about someone, you don’t send them mixed signals. You don’t confuse them until they have no idea what they mean to you anymore. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
