Have you ever had one of those moments where you feel like you have finally made peace with your past then suddenly a song comes along that reminds you of him? Those moments where you thought you have finally let go of whatever’s keeping you from being happy then suddenly it hits you again? Those moments when you have finally realised you don’t need him cause you’re out having fun with your friends but when it’s time to go you suddenly feel empty because you’re alone again and you start to miss how you were before things got blurry? Or have you ever thought that it’s the memories that you miss, not that person?

If you have, don’t worry. You’re not alone.

You miss him but you don’t want him back because you don’t want to be with someone who’s unsure if he wants to be with you or not. You don’t want to be with someone who’s uncertain whether or not he’ll end up with you. You don’t want to be with someone who just wants to be with you because he’s bored and wants someone as his pastime. You miss him but you need someone who pursues you and gives you a reason to stay. You need someone who reassures you that he will be with you no matter what the future holds. You need someone who makes you feel loved and special at all times, not just when he feels like doing it.

It’s possible to miss someone but not want them back especially if your life is so much better without them—free from all the stress and disappointments.

I guess it’s true what they say that our mind forgets, but the heart doesn’t. There’s nothing wrong with that. Healing is a process, it doesn’t just happen in a snap. Don’t blame yourself for missing your ex-lover because you think that means you’re the loser, but hey, you’re not. You can’t stop your heart from missing someone who used to mean so much from you. But I want to tell you, no matter what happens, don’t go back to the person who smashed you heart into a million little pieces. If he’s the right one for you, he’s never going to hurt you or leave you.

It’s okay to miss him but not want him back because you’re human and your feelings are reasonable. But sooner or later, you won’t feel a thing about him.

Embrace the feeling of missing him until you feel nothing at all. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
